Oregano Oil Is A Great Antibacterial & Antiviral! Here Is How To Use It

Oregano oil is a powerful essential oil that could be appropriate for antibiotics when it comes to treating or preventing various infections. In addition to being highly antibacterial, oregano essential oil also has antiviral and antifungal properties.

Unlike prescription antibiotics, oregano essential oil will not cause most of the harmful side effects commonly attributed to the high use of prescription antibiotics such as the increased risk of antibiotic resistance, poor gut health due to its devastating effects of beneficial bacteria on the gut, reduced vitamin absorption, etc.

Oregano essential oil contains two potent compounds called thymol and carvacrol, and both have been proven to have potent antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties. The oil is primarily composed of carvacrol, which offers its antiviral properties.

One study conducted in 2011 found that oregano essential oil can inhibit both human and animal viruses. According to the researchers, this action is probably due to carvacrol, which is one of the main compounds in oregano oil. Although carvacrol itself was more effective against certain viruses, oregano oil was more effective against respiratory viruses, such as the flu virus.

In addition, other studies have also shown that oregano oil reduces the activity of murine norovirus within 15 minutes of exposure. Norovirus is a highly contagious and underlying cause of gastric flu in humans. Oregano oil and carvacrol have also been shown to have antiviral activity against the herpes simplex virus, rotavirus (a common cause of diarrhea in infants and children) and various respiratory viruses that cause respiratory infections.

Both carvacrol and oregano essential oil appear to act directly on the virus capsid and subsequently on the RNA of the virus.

Oregano oil contains the other four groups of chemicals, which are powerful medicines that act as antioxidants, antiseptics, antivirals, and antibacterials. Borneol and linalool are long-chain alcohols that have antiseptic and antiviral properties. Other components are geranyl acetate and linalyl acetate, which show antifungal properties.

When and How To Take Oregano Essential Oil

As soon as you get sick, take oregano essential oil. This will strengthen your immune system, release congestion and provide energy. Oregano is also a very effective fever reducer. Although completely natural, oregano oil is still a powerful antibiotic/antiviral, so you should take it only for a short time.

To treat systemic infection, add 3 to 4 drops of 100% therapeutic oregano essential oil to a glass of water and drink 2 to 3 times daily before meals. For some people, these few drops can cause a little burning sensation in the mouth. Therefore, if you can’t handle it, reduce the number of drops.

Take oregano essential oil orally for only 7 to 10 days at a time. Take a 7-day break if needed and continue for another 7 to 10 days. Oregano is an essential oil so powerful that it should not be consumed on a long-term basis.
