Against the backdrop of a coronavirus pandemic, people follow the rules of hygiene and restrict their social contacts. But that’s not all we can do. Proper nutrition helps to strengthen the immune system to prevent possible infection. And the products that strengthen the immune system are accessible to everyone. Of course, they won’t help you heal if you get infected, but prevention is always better than cure!
Onions and garlic
The strong odor and surprisingly powerful immunostimulatory properties of onion and garlic give the sulfur compound. Garlic exhibits significant antibacterial activity even against resistant bacteria. Garlic and onions also have antiviral, antifungal, and antiparasitic effects.
Most useful is natural yogurt with live lactobacilli. These bacteria stimulate the immune system and thus help fight the disease. Yogurt is an excellent source of vitamin D.
Lemons, grapefruits, and oranges all contain Vitamin C, which strengthens the immune system and helps to quickly get rid of cold symptoms. It is thought to stimulate the production of white blood cells and this is the key to fighting infection.
Not only citrus fruits contain vitamin C. In red pepper it is twice as much as in oranges! They are also rich in beta-carotene, which helps keep our eyes and skin healthy.
Ginger is another product that helps with colds. Reduces inflammation and relieves sore throat, nausea, refreshes, and invigorates. According to recent studies, ginger can reduce chronic pain and normalize cholesterol levels.
