Tips for Keeping Fresh Food in the Fridge

  • Check the inside temperature of your refrigerator using the thermometer inside. The ideal temperature is between 37 and 39F because the food will stay fresh and not freeze.
  • Be sure to check the expiration date before purchasing a particular item! In some situations, it doesn’t pay off to buy a product that expires in two days, especially if you know you won’t prepare it until then.

  • Bread is not a place in the fridge as a humid environment can only accelerate the process of its breakdown. If you use it immediately, store it in a well-sealed container on the work surface.
  • If you have too much bread, freeze the excess and preheat in the oven before use.
  • Dry pasta, if stored properly, can also stand for its shelf life, which is usually two years, and the same applies to rice, lasagna, and similar products.
    Store dry food in hermetically sealed containers, not in original packaging. This will keep the cereals, pretzels, pasta and other dried foods fresh.

Tips for saving oil
Vegetable and olive oil can last up to two years but must be stored in a darker and cooler room as they are otherwise subject to burning. If a wine taste or aroma developed, it was probably not well sealed and that oil had failed.
