Scientists at the University of Michigan have found that a mixture of black pepper and turmeric can play an important role in the prevention and even treatment of breast cancer.
Although turmeric itself has healing properties when taken orally, it is poorly absorbed because it is metabolized very quickly by the liver and intestinal walls. Black pepper increases the bioavailability of curcumin, which helps in the fight against cancer, inflammation, and infection.
Turmeric and Black Pepper
1. Protection against cancer.
According to the study, piperine contained in black pepper increases the bioavailability of curcumin, a substance in turmeric that has an anti-cancer effect. Without piperine, the absorption of curcumin is quite low. A study published in the Journal of Breast Cancer Research and Treatment says that combining curcumin with piperine kills cancer stem cells.
2. Reduction of pain and inflammation.
The combination of piperine and curcumin affects more than 700 genes, inhibits the activity and synthesis of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), as well as other enzymes responsible for inflammatory processes.
3. Weight Loss.
Turmeric mixture with black pepper helps to lose weight. Piperine has a pyrogenic effect, that is, it speeds up metabolism and increases the amount of calories the body burns. It is also thought to contribute to the feeling of satiety.
