Among the dozens of hormones produced by our bodies, there are six that are essential to a woman’s appearance.
They are responsible for the elasticity of the skin, the loss of which is one of the first and most noticeable signs of aging.
If the hormonal background is disturbed in the body for some reason, aging may begin prematurely. Fortunately, there are ways to eliminate the imbalance and prolong your youth!
Let’s find out which are the 6 hormones of old age
1. Dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)
DHEA is a hormone that has a soothing and anti-aging effect. It is true that in sufficient quantities our body produces it only by the age of 30. And then muscle tone begins to decline, blood vessels become “fragile”, skin loses elasticity and all this is due to DHEA.
How to increase DHEA level:
Fatty acids. Include healthy fats in your diet – the body produces DHEA from them. Nuts, seeds, oily fish, avocados contain irreplaceable polyunsaturated fatty acids.
Proteins. Eat protein foods for breakfast – they help fight mood swings and stabilize the nervous system at the beginning of the day.
Insulin increases blood sugar and when it gets out of control, early signs of aging appear on the skin. High levels of sugar cause wrinkles and sagging skin. Due to glucose, the process called glycation (adhesion of sugar and protein molecules) proceeds faster than expected, and collagen and elastin are destroyed. Elastic skin becomes brittle and dehydrated.
How to control your insulin levels:
Blood test. First, consult your doctor to find out your sugar level. And after consulting a specialist, ancillary methods may be used.
Cosmetics. Retinoid creams and serums (vitamin A and its derivatives) stimulate collagen production. Vitamins C and E, as well as green tea, must be included in cosmetics – they act as antioxidants.
Sunscreen. Use sunscreen every day, even in winter. Sun rays destroy elastin fibers and contribute to rapid aging.
High levels of the stress hormone cortisol lead to premature aging. Depending on the skin type, the negative effect of cortisol is manifested in different ways: gray complexion, dryness, and flaking, deep wrinkles or high fat and acne. This hormone destroys collagen fibers and causes the skin to sag.
How to lower cortisol levels:
Drink enough water. Mild dehydration increases the level of this hormone.
Food additives. Supplements with Rhodiola Rosea reduce anxiety and cortisol at the same time.
Calm music. Music therapy reduces stress levels, scientists say.
Meditation. Meditation literally forces the body to lower cortisol without medication.
Melatonin regulates our circadian rhythms, that is, it tells the body when it’s time to relax. All cell renewal processes go to sleep, and if this is impaired, then people begin to age prematurely. From the lack of melatonin wrinkles appear, as well as hair loss and age spots.
How To Increase Melatonin Levels:
Healthy diet. Melatonin is found in bananas, tomatoes, rice, and corn.
Habits. Alcohol, smoking, and caffeine are contraindicated. When used regularly, the production of the hormone in question simply stops. Some medications also have this effect – beta-blockers, sleeping pills, and anti-inflammatory drugs.
Nutritional supplements. Melatonin can be taken as tablets. Some experts believe that after 35 years it is necessary to artificially compensate for the lack of melatonin. Be sure to consult your doctor.
5. Growth hormone
With age begins Somatopause – a deficiency of the growth hormone somatotropin. As growth hormone levels decrease, muscle mass decreases, but excess fat and wrinkles appear, mood worsens, and stamina decreases.
Some people resort to injections with growth hormone, but this method has many side effects: swelling, headaches and even uncontrolled bone and internal organ growth.
How to raise the level of growth hormone:
Physical activity. Exercises such as walking at a speed of 4-6 km / h, weight training (10-15 reps each) will be helpful. Ideally, strength training should precede aerobic exercise – first dumbbells, then a walk in the fresh air.
Temperature difference. Walking in a sauna or taking a contrast shower stimulates the production of growth hormone.
Supplements. Gamma amino acid (GABA) enhances sleep and increases somatotropin levels.
Estrogen causes fibroblast cells to produce collagen and elastin. In the absence of estrogen, wrinkles appear, the oval of the face loses shape and the breasts sag. In addition, the changes affect not only the skin: the lower the estrogen level, the faster the entire body wears off.
How To Increase Estrogen Levels:
Healthy diet. Eat soy milk, brown rice, flaxseed, fresh vegetables, and fruits. Meat products inhibit the production of estrogen, so it is better to reduce the use of animal protein.
Cosmetics. You can use creams with phytoestrogens. For example, licorice contains at its root an antioxidant that stimulates collagen production. Serums and creams with this ingredient help slow down aging.
Food additives. Phytoestrogens are also sold as nutritional supplements. And although they do not belong to hormonal medicines, they should not be taken without consulting a doctor.
