When we hear the word “meningitis”, we, parents, are in a panic. It is one of the most dangerous diseases in children that affects the brain and spinal cord. It is as important as parents to know how to recognize the symptoms.

If your child is shaken, complains about tremor and cold – you might want to think about meningitis. The main cause of this phenomenon is high temperature. But to understand if there is meningitis, pay attention to other symptoms.
In meningitis person feels hellish headache and localization of pain extends right up to the neck of the patient. In the case of newborns, there is a certain bulge in the area of the fontanelle.
With meningitis, it becomes extremely difficult to focus the look as if the picture is blurred.
Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain
In meningitis, the child loses his appetite, he/she gets ill and may have abdominal pain or even vomiting.
Sensitivity to light
A patient with meningitis reacts very acutely to bright light, has watery eyes and headaches.
Increased muscle tone on the neck
During the disease, the patient lies in a certain position. At the same time, it is often impossible to straighten his neck.
Inability to stretch the legs to the knees
In meningitis, the child can not stretch his legs when they are bent on his knees. This phenomenon is called Brudzinski’s syndrome.
If a child has a specific rash on the body, this is another sign of meningitis. Such a rash can be distinguished from the usual with a simple test: with transparent glass, press on the rash so that the skin at the affected area becomes white. If the rash fails in this manipulation, it is not meningitis. If the rash is still clearly visible, it is worth going to a doctor.
What should we do
If you find that your child has symptoms of meningitis, immediately call an ambulance and leave the patient alone. Do not forget to tell the doctor in the ambulance about the symptoms you find.
