Women’s vanity makes us look for ways to fight the inevitable age. Scientists have long been researching in this direction, trying to stop time

It turns out that one of the secrets of longevity is the hormone melatonin – its production in the body is an important prerequisite for us to look young.

Sleep hormone – melatonin. It is also called the hormone of life and longevity.

Melatonin is not only produced in the body but can also be obtained from certain foods or it can be introduced into the body in the form of medicines and supplements.

How is melatonin produced?

Melatonin is produced by the epiphysis (pineal gland). Under the influence of sunlight, the tryptophan-amino acid converts to serotonin, which is converted into melatonin overnight.

For this reason, it is important to sleep during the day for at least half an hour. About 70% of melatonin is produced at night. The process begins around 20:00, and the most intense is from 00:00 to 4:00.

What to do to increase the production of melatonin?

– go to bed before midnight;
– if you have to stay awake after this time, leave as little light as possible in the room;
– give yourself enough time to recover;
– Before going to bed, switch off all light sources, pull the blinds, use an eye mask;
– If you wake up at night, do not turn on the light.

What is the role of melatonin?

The main function of melatonin is the regulation of biorhythms.

Thanks to it we can fall asleep deeply.

But melatonin in addition:

1. Ensures the effective functioning of the endocrine system.
2. Slows the aging process.
3. Increases the function of immune protection.
4. Has antioxidant action.
5. Helps the body fight depression.
6. Provides good functioning of the digestive system.
7. Affects the production process of other hormones in the body.
8. Useful for brain cells.

If our body produces insufficient amounts of this hormone, a person is getting older, weight problems occur, including obesity. In women, the risk of early menopause and the likelihood of breast cancer increases.

Which products contain melatonin?

Melatonin is contained in some foods: corn, bananas, tomatoes, rice, carrots, radishes, figs, oats, nuts, barley, and raisins.

Products that have a positive effect on the production of melatonin include pumpkin, almonds, cheese, beef and turkey, chicken eggs, milk, apricots, lime, oatmeal, and sunflower seeds.

It should be noted that melatonin production stops in the body due to the use of alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, as well as taking certain medications containing beta-blockers, sleeping pills, anti-inflammatory drugs, and antidepressants.

Over the years, the amount of melatonin is decreasing, which is especially true after age 35, so we need to help the body to produce it more efficiently.
